I'll never forgive Petrie for ... (split)

I for one will never forgive Geoff Petrie for drafting Jason Williams instead of Dirk or Paul Pierce.
If Petrie doesn’t draft Jason Williams I probably am not a die hard Kings fan, and I don’t spend tens of thousands on basketball tickets ... hmm not sure if that would have been a better path lol.

I will never forgive Petrie for firing Adelman. I think he should have walked right out the door with him

Rubio is a much better player.
Without doing any research, I'd venture to say Rubio's 38% career FG% is the lowest of all full-time starting PG in the last two decades. That's pitiful.

Rubio is not better than Reke, let alone much better. And I don't like Reke.

You can argue that Rubio managed to stay on the court more often than Reke, which is fine. But as players, Reke is better.

Where is Reke playing?

Well, there is a reason that Rubio was full-time starting PG for each team he played, while Reke was only occasionally part of the rotation. Off course, the reason for Rubio starting was not FG%.

Using your logic, Rubio is also much better than Emanuel Ginobili because Ginobili rarely started.

Reke's career mins per game is 30+ in 10 years. That does not sound like someone who was "only occasionally part of the rotation".

I am not saying Rubio isn't good in some areas. Obviously, he is good at running an offense; but the flip side is also true - both Min and Utah decided they need an upgrade over him. Rubio seems to me to be a specialist PG for young rebuilding teams not looking to make the playoffs - he can get the youngsters the ball and school them on where to be. And once a team is ready to start winning more games, they would discard him and get better PGs.

No, Rubio is not better then Toni Kukoc was, another 6th man of the year playing for NBA champions at the time. What are Reke's accomplishments?

I looked at Reke's statistics. He played the most minutes during his rookie contract for the Kings. For 3 years he did not play more than 26 games per season, averaging 30, 18 and 24 minutes. Last two years he played 31 and 20 minutes for Grizzlies and Pacers.

Again, Petrie did NOT fire Adelman. The Maloofs decided that his contract would not be renewed. I do agree with your last sentence, however. Petrie could have walked - but I'm trying to remember a time when any front office guy actually quit because of an ownership decision.

FYI - Tyreke Evans is not playing because he has been banned from the NBA for violating the terms of the NBA's Anti-Drug Program. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement in two years, according to NBA rules.

He may be banned from the NBA but that doesn't mean he can't play overseas somewhere if he chose to and if a team showed interest.

yeah you know what I meant... and you're right - guys in those kind of positions hardly ever put principle over money. But I wish he had put his foot down and said "if he goes, I go".

If Petrie had done that what do you suspect the Maloofs would have done? IMO the statement next said would have been, "Theres the door, don't let it hit you on the way out."

Petrie loved the Kings. He took a pay cut and ran it bare bones just trying to make it work. This after overseeing "The Greatest Show on Earth" for a time.

Petrie is one of the primary reasons we all love the Kings.

Now if we really want to chat about people we cannot forgive how about the Maloofs?

Tyreke was good in some areas too, just not the ones we needed to win games. What we really needed at the time was a PG who was better than Beno Udrih. Tyreke's best year (rookie), he was the 11th most accurate 3 point shooter on the team, and would be elsewhere for years before finally rising to 3-point mediocrity and matching Rubio's 3 point percentage. He was not a good floor general and didn't make assists at close to the rate of Sergio Rodriguez, though he did keep up with Beno, albeit with 44% more turnovers. Our anticipated triple-double machine failed for that reason, rarely enough getting 10 assists that he only got 3 TDs in his career, to Rubio's 5. We couldn't figure out how to really utilize that, and he didn't make the team a lot better. Rubio certainly has his flaws, but his career WS/48 is .101, and Evans' is .075.

There was, of course, another actual PG or two we were looking at around here, but Tyreke could manhandle Curry one on one, so the Maloofs laughed at GSW for getting stuck with him.

That's because Reke was injured.

He was part of the rotation and often in the starting lineup during his career. I don't understand what rookie contract has to do with anything and why it should be disregarded because he wasn't paid like a veteran.

Reke is not and never should have been a PG. He simply isn't suited. I always thought his best role is a sixth man surrounded by four guys who don't need the ball.

I didn’t mean he should say it as a bluff

No, he played most minutes as a high pick on a lottery team and that increased his average. Rubio was injured a lot as well, but he never lost starting PG position.

Reke played a lot of mins for New Orleans and Memphis. The only season where he didn't hover around 30 mins was 16-17 when he was coming back from his injury and last season when his game suddenly declined.

This is about Petrie so I'll put here.

12/29/2019 will be the 50th anniversary of my favorite Petrie game during the 1 year we were both at Princeton. Unfortunately I only read about it since I was home for the holidays and it (of course) was not available on TV or radio.

They played at UCLA and lost by a point. That, of course, means John Wooden vs. Pete Carril. UCLA finished 28-2 that year and won their 6th championship in 7 years. Kareem had just graduated, and they'd have to wait a whole year before Bill Walton arrived (life was tough, right?). The point guard was Mike Bibby's dad Henry, and the forwards, Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe, both had long NBA careers. It took a Wicks baseline jumper near the end to win 76-75, because Petrie apparently nearly beat them single-handedly. After all, he scored 51 in back-to-back games the next season for Portland. That night was apparently what convinced the Blazers they should draft him. I thought he was great long before he arrived in Sacramento.

Actually Petire did walk in Portland over the firing of Adelman, and it was rumored that Petrie threatened to walk away from the Kings a couple of years earlier when the Maloofs wanted him to fire Adelman. The biggest mistake Vivek made was not asking Petire to stay for at least a year to give the franchise some stability during the change of ownership. Instead Vivek decided to make a clean sweep and fired everyone, which in my humble opinion, was a mistake with the draft looming just around the corner.

...and Petrie fixated on Giannis. (Sigh)
