Former Monarchs in the news

In recent weeks, some former Monarchs players/staffers have been hired as coaches.

Here are some examples:

(1.) Chantelle Anderson is now an assistant at Virginia Tech.

(2.) Adia Barnes, in addition to keeping her job as the Seattle Storm's commentator, has been hired as an assistant at Univ. of Washington.

(8.) Molly Goodenbour hired as the head coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros were 3-26 last season. Their previous coach, Van Girard, coached the Toros for 24 years, and retired with a losing record. Molly was on the Monarchs' roster years ago but didn't play a regular-season game. She was on Stanford's 1992 NCAA Championship team and also played for the San Jose Lasers in the ABL.

(9.) Heidi Vanderveer, Tara's kid sister, is now the head coach at U.C. San Diego! She was previously the coach at Occidental College (Division III) in Los Angeles. And, of course, she was on the Monarchs' coaching staff in the early years.

Congratulations to former Monarch Rebekkah Brunson, who now holds the record for most championships won by any player with five, breaking the six-way tie she previously held for first place with Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson, Janeth Arcain and Tiffany Jackson of the Houston Comets dynasty.

I just wish that Brunson's success didn't have to be with the Lynx; damn them!

She's a lead pipe lock for Knoxville but, let's keep it a buck: she belongs in Springfield, too.

Ticha was and always will be my favorite Monarch (even though I always loved Yo Griffith too). She looks great in that pic BTW!

Anyway, I'll never forget how nice she was when I took my then GF's 7 yo daughter to meet her up at the Sunrise Mall. A total class act. She certainly deserves a place in the HOF. Best pure passing PG I ever saw.
