Luka Doncic (pre and post-draft discussion thread)

Yes that's what I've seen too.

The fact is the Kings have played it so good that nobody knows what they are doing and it's driving these guys up a wall, so why not make it look like the Kings are dysfunctional instead of actually putting it together. Of course last year the Kings were idiots too until the end of draft night writers were falling over themselves to give them high grades. Same in Free Agency despite the end results, everyone was impressed with what they did.
Yes- 12 months ago most gave Kings a good grade + some form of praise. Kings have done nothing to change that. Cause of complaint has come from elsewhere.

One thing I haven’t seen spoken about much is how having a transcendent player like Luka could effect our FA desirability. Vlade has put us in a terrific cap position for the next two years and having a player like Luka on your team who can get guys the ball in the perfect spot and maximize their efficiency has to be attractive, no? Maybe not this summer but if he really shows out during his rookie campaign I think guys would gladly consider a pay day to move to California with a young, talented core that should be starting to jell.
Lol now he's a transcendent player that's gonna attract free agents already? Can't wait for this draft to get here so we take Bagley and quit with all this crazy over the top hyperbole.

A friend of mine brought up another name today -- Devin Booker. Lots of fans on this very sight gush about Booker, yet he's athletically limited too.
Yeah and people here called me crazy for saying Booker was worthy of the #6 pick in 2015. Luka looks like an even better prospect to me. There is a lot of chatter about his three point percentage going down this year but he was playing on the ball most of the year with PG Sergio Llul injured so he had to create a lot of his shots off the dribble. He was also shooting from further away than American college players and a lot further away than American high school players (Michael Porter) so their respective stats should be adjusted accordingly. Of course everyone has pretty much already made up their mind on who they like by now so you might as well throw this comment into a black hole and forget about it.

Since you like Bagley so much why don't you stick to the Bagley thread why antagonize other posters who like Doncic? What purpose does it serve?
I don't like Bagley so much, just a little better than Luka. I like JJJ but no one wants to talk about him lol. The threads are for discussion about a player, both negative and positive. This isn't a Luka fanboys only thread. My view on Luka is I'm hoping we pass on him for a better player so that's what I'm here to discuss. Just so happens that 90% disagree so people get upset cause they don't like the take

The only reason we're not talking about Jaren Jackson Jr. is because he apparently turned down a workout and Vlade doesn't draft players who refuse to work out in Sacramento. He absolutely should be in the conversation at #2 as should Mo Bamba but since the likelihood of Vlade picking either one seems to be less than 5% based on what we currently know, there just doesn't seem to be much to talk about there.

I know, it sucks. I'm holding out a glimmer of hope that Vlade sees it like I do and takes him anyways because he's too good to pass up but I know that's not gonna happen.

Sorry to interrupt your Luka love fest with a little bit of reality, carry on!
From my point of view...
It's not annoying you don't like Doncic, that's fair.
It's a bit annoying you and another user don't know European basketball and how it is structured.
Nevertheless you judge Doncic by his stats, his opponents, his skills taken out of the context.

He's got a chance to be Anthony Davis or at least Kat, far from the 3rd best player on any team.
He would be the clear #1 pick if he had a good chance of becoming those guys. He's going to be a poor mans version at best and KAT was an offensive stud in college. AD showed a ton of flashes offensively in college as well. JJJ has one drive from the 3 point line where he takes the defender off the dribble and gets all the way to the basket and people think he's going to be an offensive monster because of that one play. There is very little evidence that this guy will be a good scorer in the NBA. He has skills and he's a lottery pick but he has no place anywhere being near the #2 pick.

Just curious, what do you think Doncic's weaknesses are going to be in the NBA? Like lets say he doesn't pan out as one of the best players in this draft, what do you think the reason will be?

I disagree obviously. Compare his numbers to Kat's , their almost identical. Good shooting percentages from the stripe and from three. Can handle the ball. No reason not to think he won't make strides in the NBA on the offensive end just like ad and Kat did. That type of player (long/athletic/skilled) gets better in the NBA on the offensive end. Even Myles Turner did. They all do.

Defensively we already know what's up, he's a beast.

Yeah. I don't think anyone here would be upset if we picked Jackson. His ceiling is insanely high and, at worst, he's a very useful utility guy. But like they just said, he doesn't want to be here. He's made that clear. He'll more than likely get his wish.

First question...
Right now?
He's not a reliable shooter on assisted shots yet.
I wanna see his reaction to some more physical opponents, especially first months.
Deal with ball hogs and stats padder (luckily we don't have lots anymore, I'm not refering to DMC btw), he's not accustomed to play with them
Deal with low IQ teammates, same as here above.

Second question...
An injury. Yes, I'm serious.
I hope for him he's gonna be used for his strenghts, we already made the mistake with Tyreke when we started play him as SF.

The numbers look decent to me but I just don't see any discernible offensive skills from him that set him apart from any other big man other than his shot being accurate. Defensively there are obviously almost no questions there other than fouling.

Either way, you wanted some JJJ talk so that's all I've got :)

JJJ was a beast in the post too statistically, though not utilized as much and can pass. I got him 2, damn unfortunate he didn’t work out

If Luka was as much of a cannot miss prospect as you make him out to be, he would be a consensus #1 pick with no one else in consideration. He isn’t for a reason.

Is there a link to any quotes from the player or his agent? I have not heard that from the player of his agent.

He's not gonna say "it's a dump there" a few hours before the draft.
While that's true. What makes you think a bunch of whispers from social media is going to be any more accurate? If you have a direct quote from his parents or agent, then sure, I'll believe you. But you don't, so you can only take it from what they say on camera.
